Description

This Peach Cobbler Recipe is a warm, comforting dessert with juicy peaches and a buttery, golden-brown topping. The perfect balance of sweet, spiced peaches and a fluffy yet crisp crust makes this a classic Southern dessert that’s easy to make and absolutely irresistible!

Whether you use fresh, canned, or frozen peaches, this cobbler will be your go-to recipe for any occasion. Serve it warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for the ultimate treat!

Ingredients

For the Peach Filling:

  • 4 cups fresh peaches, peeled and sliced (or use canned/frozen, drained well)
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp ground cloves (optional, for extra warmth)

For the Cobbler Batter:

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted (1 stick, 4 oz)
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ¾ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup light brown sugar, lightly packed
  • 1 cup whole milk

Instructions

1. Preheat the Oven & Prepare the Butter:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Place the butter in a 9×13-inch baking dish and put it in the oven while it preheats. Let the butter melt completely. Once melted, remove the dish from the oven and set it aside.

2. Prepare the Peach Filling:

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the peaches, water, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
  3. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes until the peaches soften and the mixture thickens slightly. Remove from heat.

3. Make the Cobbler Batter:

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and brown sugar.
  2. Gradually stir in the milk, mixing until smooth.

4. Assemble the Cobbler:

  1. Pour the batter evenly over the melted butter in the baking dish. Do not stir—the batter will naturally rise around the peaches while baking.
  2. Spoon the peach mixture and its syrup over the batter, spreading it evenly. Do not mix.

5. Bake & Serve:

  1. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the cobbler topping is golden brown and set.
  2. Remove from the oven and let it cool for 5 minutes before serving.
  3. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or a drizzle of caramel sauce.

Notes

  • Make-Ahead Tip: You can prepare the peach filling a day in advance and store it in the fridge. Just reheat it before assembling the cobbler.
  • Storage: Store leftovers covered in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • Reheating: Warm individual servings in the microwave for 30 seconds or reheat the entire dish in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 15 minutes.
  • Freezing: Freeze baked cobbler for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge and reheat in the oven before serving.
  • Gluten-Free Option: Use 1:1 gluten-free flour instead of all-purpose flour.
  • Extra Crunchy Topping: Add ¼ cup oats or chopped pecans to the batter for added texture.

Serving Ideas:

  • Classic: Serve warm with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream.
  • Decadent: Drizzle with caramel sauce or whipped cream.
  • Refreshing: Pair with a glass of iced tea or lemonade for a perfect Southern-style treat!
