Ingredients

For the Casserole:

  • 1 lb ground beef (90/10 lean)
  • 1 lb russet potatoes, diced into small cubes (or frozen hash browns)
  • ½ onion, finely chopped
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
  • ¼ cup water
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For the Big Mac Sauce:

  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon paprika

Toppings:

  • Shredded lettuce
  • Diced tomatoes
  • Sliced pickles
  • Sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Big Mac Sauce:

    • In a small bowl, whisk together all the sauce ingredients until smooth.
    • Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to let the flavors meld.
  • Preheat the Oven:

    • Set your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Cook the Potatoes:

    • In a large oven-safe skillet, heat 1 teaspoon olive oil over medium-high heat.
    • Add the diced potatoes and ¼ cup water.
    • Cook for 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the potatoes are tender and slightly golden.
    • If using frozen hash browns, cook according to package instructions.
  • Brown the Beef:

    • Push the potatoes to one side of the skillet.
    • Add the ground beef and chopped onion to the other side.
    • Cook for 5-7 minutes, breaking up the beef as it browns.
    • Season with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Assemble the Casserole:

    • Mix the beef and potatoes together in the skillet.
    • Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top.
  • Bake:

    • Transfer the skillet to the oven and bake for 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
